Shepherding and equipping the asian church

The goal of this program is to nurture, equip and develop pastors for the mission and ministry of the churches in the Philippines and Asia. The program enables pastors to develop their Christian spirituality, knowledge, and skills.

The Diploma offers a foundation in Pastoral Studies for those who already hold a masters degree or for those involved in pastoral ministry in a lay capacity.

The Master of Divinity is a basic professional degree, which provides the most comprehensive graduate education for those preparing for pastoral ministry. It encompasses a full spectrum of studies in Bible, theology, history, ministry theory and practice, and field education. Specialization includes preaching, pastoral care, youth ministry, urban ministry, Christian leadership, Christian worship, Christian education, church planting, missions, and community development.

The Master of Arts is a two-year professional degree, which provides a foundation in biblical and theological disciplines and significant training in pastoral ministry skills.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Pastoral Ministry

A study of biblical and theological foundations of pastoral ministry based on the nature, mission, and ministry of the local church. Based on these biblical and theological foundations, the students define the nature, purpose, and tasks of pastoral ministry, analyze the development of pastoral ministry in the history of the church, and examine various theories and practices of pastoral ministry in order to develop their emerging philosophy of ministry in the Philippine/Asian context.

Biblical Preaching

A study of the theology and ministry of biblical preaching, principles and techniques of biblical text selection and interpretation, sermon structure and development, communication theory, and methods of sermon delivery. Practice preaching is required.

Advanced Preaching

A study of the principles and techniques of preparing and delivering biblical sermons based on various biblical genres: narrative, law, prophetic, psalm/wisdom, gospels, parable, apocalyptic, etc. The students learn various approaches in planning a preaching calendar and developing preaching resources.

Church Organization and Administration

A study of the theology, theory, and practice of local church organization, management, leadership and administration in the Philippine/Asian context. The students develop their own approach to managing a local church according to their church tradition and context.

Christian Worship

A study of the biblical and theological foundations of Christian worship. Based on these foundations the students describe the nature and purpose of biblical worship, analyze Christian worship in the history of the church, and explore the practice of Christian worship in different cultures, places, and times. The students develop their own emerging philosophy of Christian worship.

Pastoral Studies LIFE

LIFE is an action-reflection learning experience designed to develop the capacity and ability of the students to engage in the thinking of ministry, the doing of ministry, and the being of ministry. LIFE provides an occasion for integration of our knowing, being, acting, feeling, and intuiting. It is structured in 2 parts, namely 8-10 hours a week ministry engagement, and a weekly 2-hour seminar on campus.
